I decided to become a builder because I am a very hands-on person. Ever since
I can remember I was always building something. I used to always build with
Legos then moved up to building forts for my GI Joes out of any material available.
When I learned to swing a hammer I moved up to tree houses. I then built a vesper dale for
my church as my Eagle Scout project. As I got older I built porches, decks, and even did
some remodeling for my parents, brothers, and grandparents. After I received a Drafting and
Design degree from Appalachian State I decided that I would enter into the construction industry.
I worked for a major construction company for almost two years then one day, after being just a
number in a huge company, decided to start my own business. To this day I am pleased of my
career choice and what I can contribute to the building industry.
I have been building ever since I was very young. However, this will be my third
year building residential homes, and five years total in the building industry.
I would have to say my favorite part of building homes is that there is never
a dull moment. There are always new tasks and problem solving situations that
builders face, and I enjoy the challenges.
The plan is to keep it small. I like the fact of only building a small
number of homes each year so that I can keep a close eye on every project that I undertake.
I see the building industry growing for the next couple of years. Although
I don’t think it will continue to grow at the same rate that it is now I do
think you will always see people wanting to come to the beach or near it to
build their dream homes.
